On the water
A boat policy is written around how you use the boat.
It changes with where you keep the boat, how far out you take it and who else runs it. We ask those questions before quoting rather than after a claim, and more than one company quotes the same boat, so you see what each one charges before you decide.
- Who else is allowed to run the boat is part of the policy. If a friend takes it out for the weekend, or you hire a captain, tell us before it happens.
- Wear, gradual rot and mechanical breakdown sit outside a boat policy. What it is written for is sudden damage: a storm, a collision, a sinking, a theft.
- Agreed value and actual cash value settle a total loss differently, and the difference only appears at the claim. We tell you which of the two you are buying.

What Florida boat insurance covers
We shop the market for you across 30+ carriers
Florida boat insurance follows the boat rather than a driveway, which is what makes it different from everything else on this site. It covers the hull on the water, the liability that comes with operating it, and the trailer and the road between the ramp and the house. The water you are allowed to be on is part of the policy rather than an assumption.
In South Florida the use is year-round and the exposure is hurricane season, so where a boat is kept matters as much as what it is worth. The office is in Sunrise, a few minutes from the ramps, and boats are insured across Florida.
Hull and machinery
The boat itself, its motor and the equipment that came with it.
Liability
Injury and property damage you are responsible for while operating the boat.
Trailer and transport
The trailer, and the boat on the road between the water and wherever it is kept.
Personal effects
The gear that lives aboard rather than at home. Electronics, tackle, safety equipment.
Boat Insurance FAQ
Am I covered on a crossing to the Bahamas?
Only if those waters are in the policy. A boat policy names the area you are covered on, and a crossing or a longer trip outside it we add before you go. Tell us where you plan to take the boat when we quote it, and call before the trip if the plan changes.
What changes during hurricane season?
Two things on a Florida boat policy behave differently once a storm is named. The named-storm deductible is usually separate from the ordinary one, and usually larger. And the policy sets out what you have to do with the boat once a storm has a name, which is also why where you keep it affects the quote. We go through both when we write it.
